Is Smoobu down, or did your calendar sync quietly break?

Two very different things can throw your calendar off, and they have opposite fixes. One is a real Smoobu outage: the platform is down for everyone, it is rare, and it shows up on a status page. The other is your own sync silently breaking: one link goes stale, one channel disconnects, only your listings are affected, and nothing warns you. Telling them apart is the whole game, because you cannot fix a broken sync by waiting for an outage to pass.

Smoobu has a status page, but it is password-protected, so as a host you cannot actually open it.
Smoobu does run a status page at status.smoobu.com, and that is the catch: it is password-protected, so an ordinary host who wants to know whether Smoobu is down just hits a locked door. Even if you could read it, it would report platform uptime, not whether your own iCal link stopped updating a portal. The failure hosts actually hit, a portal quietly falling out of date, is invisible either way.

The break a status page can’t show you
Smoobu connects to Airbnb, Booking.com, and Vrbo through a direct two-way API that pushes changes in near real time, and uses one-way iCal for niche portals and external calendars like Google, Outlook, and iCloud. Smoobu says it imports iCal bookings within about ten minutes, but it has no control over how often an external portal checks Smoobu's own link, which can be anywhere from an hour to a full day.
When one of those connections fails, Smoobu keeps showing the last data it pulled. There is no red banner, because from the platform’s side nothing is down. The symptoms hosts actually report look like this:
- ·A canceled Airbnb reservation that never clears in Smoobu, leaving those dates blocked
- ·An external portal that fetches an outdated calendar and overwrites your master, reopening blocked dates
- ·New reservations that stop pushing to a portal over iCal, Smoobu's single most common support topic
- ·Double bookings from relying on iCal for a channel that really needs the direct connection
